Everything you would like to know about the Hot Air Distribution System

quidebook

Fireplace is a very efficient and economical source of heat in the building. The construction of an appropriate distribution allows you to create an effective and low-cost heating system that will be able to effectively heat your entire home.

High performance with low financial costs

This solution is extremely financially advantageous, because in the case of most installations, the cost of individual elements and the installation of the Air Distribution System system constitutes no more than 20% of the construction cost of the fireplace with a closed combustion chamber, i.e. with a fireplace insert. It is worth explaining that only fireplaces with a fireplace insert allow you to build a Air Distribution System system. Fireplaces with a closed combustion chamber have far greater heating efficiency - an average of about 70%, and in the case of fireplaces with an open firebox does not exceed 20%.

Fireplace inserts for permanent smoking

If we decide to buy a fireplace insert, whose task will be to efficiently heat the flat or house and we will not use it only occasionally, then we should consider buying a cartridge intended for continuous smoking. All fireplace inserts have special ribs that act as a heat sink - thanks to a large surface area, it more effectively transfers heat to the environment, thereby effectively heating our house. Cartridges of this type are constructed in a special way to provide them with high-quality durability and resistance to long-term high temperature.

Consult an expert!

Before the final purchase decision, it is necessary to consult a specialized expert who will advise us on the most appropriate contribution to our installation, both in terms of its nominal power, intended use (whether for permanent smoking or not), functionality and aesthetics. It is also worth remembering that under the current law, a fireplace can not be the only source of heat - it can only serve as a supplement to an existing heating installation. The reason for this type of regulation is the need to ensure constant heating of the building also in case of long-term absence of its residents. Therefore, the installation of the fireplace does not absolve us from the necessity of having an independent heating installation in the house or apartment.

How to choose the right heating power?

We choose the fireplace power depending on the insulation of the building and the heated area, calculating it from the thermal balance of the building. The hot air distribution system should be carefully designed and adapted to the needs of a specific home. We should think about it during the design of the building. In order to properly choose the right type of system - gravitational or forced - and correctly compose its individual elements, you must first perform a few calculations.

These calculations are designed to ensure high efficiency of the installation, i.e. to ensure that the air heated by the fireplace reaches all the rooms covered by the plan and guarantee a suitable temperature, sufficient to heat them.

Gravitational system - advantages and disadvantages

If the surface to be heated is small and located a short distance from the fireplace - so that the installation ducts are not more than 4-5 m long - then you can opt for a gravity system that is cheaper and sufficiently efficient because the temperature difference causing movement warm air up will be enough to overcome the distance from the fireplace to the outlet of the heating wire.

This small distance of the fireplace from the vents and the relatively low velocity of the circulating air results in a much higher temperature, which can lead to the burning of dust (pyrolysis) at the outlet from grilles or diffusers. Therefore, nowadays, it is rather moving away from this type of solution

System forced

If we want to heat a much larger area or the whole house, we should decide on a forced system, the central point of which supply device will suck air from the eaves of the fireplace and pump them to even very distant outlets. When choosing a forced system, we must check whether the solution will be efficient enough to be able to decide on the fireplace. We will find out exactly by calculating the air flow needed to heat it and the loss of pressure in individual branches of the system.

The result will allow us to select the correct type of air supply unit and to precisely adjust its performance to the needs of a specific installation.

The most important advantages of the Hot Air Distribution System include:

  • it's an ecological solution;
  • relatively cheap operation;
  • no dependence on external energy suppliers;
  • failure of part of the system does not cause immobility of the entire Hot Air Distribution system;
  • reduces the effect of different temperature layers between the floor and the ceiling.

Disadvantages Hot Air Distribution System:

  • It can be installed only in new buildings or buildings intended for complete renovation;
  • lack of automatic and precise regulation of room temperature;
  • prolonged absence from home causes the flame in the fireplace to go out and the house temperature drops.
